2019 National Seat Belt Enforcement Mobilization
for 2019 is May 20 - June 2

Welcome, Law Enforcement ... we need your help!

The National Seat Belt Enforcement Mobilization is May 20 - June 2, 2019.

Dates to Remember

  • May 13 - June 2, 2019 (paid media dates)
  • May 20 - June 2, 2019 (enforcement dates)

In 2016, the use of seat belts in passenger vehicles saved an estimated 14,668 lives of occupants ages 5 and older. The Click It or Ticket campaign focuses on safety education, strong laws, and law enforcement officers saving lives.

Use these enforcement resources for outreach during the campaign dates to highlight the dangers of not wearing a seat belt. These materials do not focus on social norming – for those materials, please refer to our Buckle Up. Every Trip. Every Time. campaign.

Seat belts have been proven to be one of the best ways to save your life in a crash. Yet many still don’t buckle up. Worse still, not wearing a seat belt is a habit that will pass on to impressionable youth, who in turn will think it’s safe to not buckle up.

Provided are several campaigns for seat belts. General campaign materials for every day use are found under Buckle Up America, which includes special holiday resources. Enforcement materials created to assist law enforcement and emphasize seat belt laws can be found under Click It or Ticket. Our newest seat belt safety campaign, aimed at “tweens” or those between ages 8 to 14, can be found under Seat Belt Safety – Tweens. Toolkits can also be found, focusing on addressing African American and Hispanic audiences.

Use these resources to save lives in your community by urging proper seat belt use.

May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month

National Ride to Work Day - June 17, 2019

Motorcyclists have the same rights and privileges as any other motor vehicle operator on the road. The Share the Road campaign focuses on promoting motorcyclist awareness and safety to both motorcycle riders and motor vehicle drivers. The impaired riding campaign Ride Sober or Get Pulled Over/Don’t Drink and Ride focuses on saving lives of those who make the wrong choice to drink and ride.

Use these materials and resources to promote motorcycle safety in your community.

Move Over Law

Our first responders protect motorists on the road. Too often, however, it is our first responders who need protecting, as they are injured or killed while on a busy road or highway.

Together with our law enforcement partners and State Highway Safety Offices, NHTSA is working to increase awareness of life-saving laws, such as “Move Over,” in order to better protect our first responders who place themselves at risk to save lives on the road.

All 50 States have "Move Over" laws to protect law enforcement officers and other first responders stopped on our Nation's roads. Yet only 71% of the public are aware of these laws, and traffic-related incidents continue to be the number one cause of death among on-duty law enforcement officers. Together with our law enforcement partners and State Highway Safety Offices, NHTSA is working to increase awareness of these life-saving "Move Over" laws and highlight the need to protect public safety professionals who place themselves at risk to protect motorists.
